Making a Yeast Starter

In this video, Joe Polvino shows us how to make a quick and easy yeast starter. For those that don’t know yeast starters are a method for raising your yeast cell count before you pitch the yeast into your wort. Yeast starters also help to reduce the lag time by making sure your yeast is alive and well.

I have not done a yeast starter myself because up until now I have been using dried yeast or yeast activator packs. With my next batch though I will be using a yeast starter because I will be using yeast that I have harvested from my last batch.

Anytime your are using harvested yeast you will want to use a yeast starter to help things get going. So sit back and grab your pencil and paper for taking notes because this is going to be a great educational video.
